“When love goes wrong,” Dirty John is a true-crime series created by USA Network based on the podcast of the same name by Christopher Goffard. Although both seasons have dark and twisted plots, you could argue that the show is also a celebration of classic American style throughout the decades. Season one sees unsuspecting victim Debra Newell entangled in a toxic relationship with con-man John Meehan, wearing some of the best clothes that the noughties had to offer for wealthy Californian women, including ruffled blouses, V-neck sweaters, and pencil skirts. Similarly, season two follows Betty Broderick and the story of how her marriage unravels, as she clings to her bougie lifestyle in eighties-influenced polo shirts, jeans and suit-sets. A little bit nostalgic, kind of disturbing, but a lot fascinating—you’ll undoubtedly be hooked on the show and the fashion.
