In Black-ish, André and Rainbow Johnson live out the American dream as an upper middle class Black family navigating through personal and sociopolitical issues in current times. But even with two busy careers and four children to raise dealing with their own issues, Dré and Bow manage to tackle it all with sharp banter and edgy clothes that capture the spirit of the sitcom. Dre’s classic street to corporate chic versus Bow’s palette of prints and color showcase the Johnson clan as steadfastly ‘for the culture’ from their fashion to their causes, offering a modern spin on being Black in America today. Costume design by Michelle Cole (insta).
